Waldron Statement on State Transportation Secretary’s Attempt to Deceive Californians on Road Money Raid

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron (Escondido) issued the following statement in response to California State Transportation Agency Secretary David S. Kim’s contradictory press release defending his attempt to raid road money in pursuit of a radical anti-car agenda:

“Secretary Kim is deceiving the people of California. How can he say he’s not raiding our road money in one sentence, then turn right around and say we need to cut road projects and ‘direct available resources’ elsewhere?

“It’s disturbing that he claims this raid on our road money ‘is simply the right thing to do.’ Keeping our promises is the right thing to do, and voters were promised that gas taxes would fix the roads.

“California has diverted billions from road repair since 2010 and more than a third of SB 1’s revenue is already sent to projects unrelated to roads. This scheme is doubling down on that long record of highway robbery. It’s time to use this money appropriately and stop the Newsom administration’s bait-and-switch.”
