DeMaio Exposes Gavin Newsom’s 5 Biggest Failures on State Budget

DeMaio Slams Newsom as “Dishonest and Irresponsible” and Says CA Democrats to Blame for State’s Fiscal Crisis

California State Assemblymember Carl DeMaio is blasting Governor Gavin Newsom for proposing another “dishonest and irresponsible budget plan that cuts services, raises taxes, and leaves our state headed for a fiscal cliff.”

“Gavin Newsom is a liar who is utterly incapable of fixing the fiscal crisis he has created,” DeMaio warns.

“Newsom and California Democrats are desperately trying to blame Donald Trump for the years of their reckless and irresponsible spending decisions – and their job-killing policies that have resulted in significant lost revenues to our state,” DeMaio adds.

Two months ago DeMaio – who is a national government budget reform expert – was removed by CA Democrat politicians from the State Budget Committee after he warned that Newsom was lying to Californians in claiming to have a “modest surplus” in the state budget – and for exposing the true cost to state taxpayers ($9.5 billion) of providing illegal immigrants free healthcare.

As Newsom unveils his latest budget plan today, DeMaio offers a list of Gavin Newsom’s 5 Biggest Failures on the State Budget:

1. NOT JUST A DEFICIT — A FULL-BLOWN FISCAL CRISIS:
DeMaio warns California isn’t facing just a deficit—it’s in a full-scale fiscal meltdown. He accuses Gov. Newsom of using accounting tricks to hide the true scope of the crisis, which he says rivals the Great Recession in scale and impact.

2. BLAME RECKLESS SPENDING, NOT TRUMP:
DeMaio says Newsom and Sacramento Democrats are wrongly blaming Trump for a crisis caused by their own overspending. He offers key stats:

    • Government Bloat: State workforce has grown over 20% since Newsom took office in 2019.
    • Skyrocketing Pay: Salaries and benefits are up 42%, now averaging $177,000 per employee.
    • Budget Explosion: State spending has jumped over 60% under Newsom.

3. THE WORST IS YET TO COME:
DeMaio predicts revenues will fall further than projected due to illegal use of federal funds and job-killing policies. He says wealthier residents are fleeing while lower-income households remain due to overly generous welfare programs.

4. WORKING FAMILIES PAY THE PRICE:
DeMaio criticizes Newsom for slashing core services while rewarding political allies. He cites tax breaks for Hollywood and a new payroll tax on small businesses, along with a Gas Tax hike and billions wasted on the High-Speed Rail.

5. PRIORITIES UPSIDE DOWN:
DeMaio slams Newsom for funding welfare for illegal immigrants while neglecting basic services. He highlights failures to implement Prop 36 and underfund wildfire prevention efforts even after destructive fires.

DeMaio has offered a counter-plan to fix the California budget crisis – a plan that avoids tax hikes and fully funds core services by instead reforming waste, fraud and abuse in state government. Assembly Democrats thus far have refused to bring that plan up for hearings.
