Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP)

Take Back Control of Your Personal Data

Californians now have a powerful new tool to stop companies from collecting and selling their personal information.

The Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) is a free, state-run service that allows you to demand that data brokers delete your information—and stop profiting from it.

For too long, companies have quietly collected and sold your data without your knowledge. DROP puts you back in control.

What Is DROP?

DROP is California’s centralized tool for submitting data deletion and opt-out requests.

Instead of contacting hundreds of companies individually, DROP lets you submit one request that reaches more than 500 registered data brokers at once.

DROP is operated by the California Privacy Protection Agency as part of California’s ongoing commitment to strong consumer privacy protections.

Why Use DROP?

Data brokers collect and sell sensitive personal information—fueling spam, scams, and even identity theft.

Using DROP can help you:

  • Limit the sale of your personal information
  • Reduce unwanted emails, texts, and phone calls
  • Lower the risk of identity theft, fraud, and impersonation
  • Take greater control of your digital footprint

Some online experiences, such as targeted ads or personalized content, may change after your data is deleted.

How DROP Works

Using DROP is simple, secure, and free.

Confirm that you are a California resident using the State’s secure verification process.

Provide basic information to help data brokers locate your records. You choose how much information to share.

Your request is sent to over 500 registered data brokers at once.

Starting August 1, 2026, data brokers are required by law to begin deleting requested data within 90 days and must continue checking for new requests every 45 days.

Who Can Use DROP?

Any California resident can submit a request.

You may also be able to submit a request on behalf of:

  • A child
  • An elderly family member
  • Another eligible California resident

Your Privacy Comes First

DROP is built with strong protections:

  • Your information is only used to process your request
  • It is never sold or shared
  • No state account is required
  • Your data is securely stored and protected
